Tim Hecker / Aidan Baker + guests

For more than a decade, Canadian musician Tim Hecker has released high-quality albums. Hecker is known for his immersing style and intense ambience, always playing in pitch darkness. Sweeping soundscapes that combine melody, beauty and noise.

Three years ago Hecker presented Ravedeath 72 in Netwerk, only for a select audience and last year he released his stunning album Virgins, Hecker’s first album with live played instruments form the base. It sounds more spacious and more intense than all his previous work and received widespread critical acclaim by press & public. In the past, Hecker worked together with artists such as Ben Frost and Oneohtrix Point Never and his first collaboration was with Aidan Baker.

Aidan Baker is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist based in Berlin. His primary instrument is the electric guitar with which he creates music ranging from experimental/drone to ambient post-rock to contemporary classical.

Both on record and during live performances, improvisation is central. He released numerous records both as a solo artist and as part of various side projects. His new album Triptychs: Variations On A Melody (Important Records) takes inspiration from Erik Satie’s compositions Gymnopédies and his notion of “furniture music,” which many consider a precursor to contemporary ambient music. Each “triptych” is based around a simple, slow-moving melodic line, which repeats three times with the addition of a harmonic line upon each repetition, culminating in a three part harmony. For this album he has worked together with Peter Broderick, Julia Kent and Felicia Atkinson among others. Live he will be supported by a Belgian string quartet.
