Netwerk Aalst is organising a travelling open air cinema along the Dender this summer. Together with eight cities and municipalities, they are opening all the floodgates for a unique film event called Cinema op Dreef, open air cinema along the Dender.

Cinema op Dreef takes you on a cinematic trip through the Dender valley in August. From Geraardsbergen, through Ninove, Roosdaal, Liederkerke, Denderleeuw, Aalst and Lebbeke, all the way to Dendermonde. A 45km route along the most beautiful spots along, and close to, the Dender.

Cinema op Dreef wants to bring a wide audience into contact with recent cinematographic gems in a fairy-tale manner. It also wants to put the beautiful Dender region in the spotlight as a culturally valuable area.

Come and enjoy Cinema op Dreef together at the most beautiful locations on the Dender and discover the best films such as Close, Everything Everywhere All At Once, De Acht Bergen and Triangle Of Sadness. But also hidden film gems such as Il Buco, Fire of Love and Alcarrás, among others. “It is a fantastic opportunity for residents of the region to enjoy exceptional films together outdoors and for visitors to discover the beautiful surroundings of the Dender in a different way.” according to Hans Bocxstael of Netwerk Aalst.

The summer films in the Dender region are scheduled from 4 August to 27 August. For four weeks, residents and visitors to the region can enjoy a series of wonderful open air films at various locations along the Dender. The programme includes family films during the day (from 16h) and special feature films in the evening (from 20h30) with short films by new talent beforehand. In addition, a complementary programme is often offered by the various cities and municipalities.

With the support of its partners, Netwerk Aalst submitted a dossier to the VAF (Flemish Audiovisual Fund) and was told this week that it was approved by the VAF Board of Directors. The partners consist of all Flemish cities and towns along the Dender and arts centre Denderland from Geraardsbergen. The team is optimistic and enthusiastic and is already looking forward to the event.

With this travelling open air cinema, Netwerk Aalst wants to fulfil its ambition as a cultural cinema in the Dender region. The initiative shows their commitment to bring the better film to the people and promote the cultural value of the region. Cinema op Dreef will undoubtedly bring a summer full of unforgettable film experiences and contribute to the growth of cultural awareness in the Dender region.
