It is with pride that Netwerk announces the co-production of La Mesure Végétale, a new work by artists Fabien Giraud & Raphaël Siboni, filmed in the arctic setting of Svalbard. The film will be premiered during this first Belgian solo exhibition at Netwerk.

Having grown from the practices of documentary and cinema, Giraud & Siboni focus their research on the conceptual approach and the perception of the world by man. They question the evolution of techniques, time periods and proportional scales, which have brought us to a worldview that is far beyond the measure of man.

“A simple machine is a term coined in the 18th century to describe a mechanical device able to change the direction or magnitude of a force. Classically there are 6 such elementary devices: the lever, the wheel, the pulley, the inclined plane, the wedge and the screw. This show is conceived as an addition to this list. It makes the hypothesis that an exhibition – any exhibition – may very well be nothing else than another crude and rudimentary attempt in this mechanics of inflection.
