Ieva Epnere

Ieva Epnere (Latvia,1977) lives and works in Riga and Berlin. She works with photography, video and textile and employs personal and intimate stories as points of departure for her artistic reflections on identity, history, tradition and communal rituals.

Epnere graduated the HISK (Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Ghent) postgraduate course in 2012. In 2019, she received a DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Programme fellowship. That same year she won the Purvitis Prize. Her works are included in public collections such as the Latvian National Museum of Art and are exhibited around the world. Recent solo exhibitions include: On Water, Wind and Faces of Stone (Fogo Island Gallery, Newfoundland, Canada) and Hybrid Identities (HIT Gallery, Bratislava). Recent group shows are TALK TO ME! (Akureyri Art Museum, Iceland), 12th Kaunas Biennial AFTER LEAVING | BEFORE ARRIVING (Kaunas, Lithuania) and PURV?TIS PRIZE 2019 (Latvian National Museum of Art, R?ga). Her works were also shown at the first Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art, at the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center in Moscow and at Villa Vassilieff in Paris. In 2018, she was an artist-in-residence at Laspis in Stockholm and on Fogo Island, Newfoundland.
