Laila Melchior

Laila Melchior is an independent curator. Researcher in the fields of contemporary art, aesthetics and audiovisual, she has a master’s degree in Communication and Culture from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and a postgraduate degree in Curatorial Studies from the Koninklijke Academie Voor Schone Kunsten (KASK & Conservatorium). She works on projects related to arts, film, and theory, always looking to incorporate a Global South perspective on her projects. Formerly an assistant professor at the Cinema and Digital Media’s undergraduate course at the Instituto de Educação Superior de Brasília (IESB), she has published and presented academic works in several institutions. Based in Brussels, she developed and coordinated the Young Curators Program’s pilot edition for the Belgian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale and is currently working on the project’s second iteration.

Some of the exhibitions and public programs she curated are: Superfícies Sensíveis (Caixa Cultural – Rio de Janeiro, BR), Ghost Library (Casa do Brasil – Brussels, BE), Aventuras do Pensamento (Caixa Cultural – Rio de Janeiro, BR), and Time, Times. Half a Time (Brussels, BE).
