Laurens Dhaenens

Laurens Dhaenens (PhD, University of Leuven) is a post-doctoral researcher Art History of the Flemish Research Fund (FWO) at the University of Leuven and independent curator.

His research is situated in the fields of exhibition studies, global art history and digital humanities. Overall, he focusses on the worldwide circulation of artworks and texts since the nineteenth century. He worked extensively on art from South America, cultural diplomacy and Belgian art.

He worked as a curator and assistant curator at the Museo de Arte de Lima, Galería Ojo Ajeno, Gonzalez y Gonzalez Gallery and Netwerk Aalst. He is currently preparing an exhibition about the artistic connection between Argentinian art and Belgian art between 1910 and 1960 at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Mu.Zee in Ostend.

His texts appeared in, amongst other journals, Image and Narrative, Caiana Revista académica de investigación en Arte y cultura visual, Revue Histoire de l’art, Revista de História da Arte and RIHA journal. He edited Art from Latin America, Modern and Contemporary (Lannoo, 2015) and co-edited Kunstkritiek, Standpunten uit België en Nederland in een internationaal perspectief (1985-2010) (LannooCampus 2010).
