Ria Pacquée (Belgium, 1954) is an Antwerp based artist and performer. She gathered international recognition in the 1980s with Madame and It, performance series in which she played characters sprouted from her imagination. The concept of ‘identity’ runs like a thread through her work, making use of her own body as an instrument in performances, body art, installations and video work. Pacquée sees identity as a broad, open concept, a dynamic feature that holds a permanent relation with the outside world.

Pacquée is currently exhibiting at Middelheimmuseum, Antwerp with They Are Looking at Us, We Are Looking at Them, where she created work while keeping an abstract diary for 30 days. Previously, she exhibited at Cultureel Centrum Merksem (2017); Loods 12, Wetteren (2016); Treignac, France (2013); Argos Centre for Art & Media, Brussels (2011) and La Cambre, Brussels (2009) among others. She participated in group exhibitions in Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Greece and Ireland. In 2009, Pacquée received the Prix de sculpture de Fondation Marie-Louise Jacques. She had residencies in Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2012, 2006) and the Middlesex University London (2001).
