Vincent Meessen is a visual artist. He produces works and situations that explore and actualize the relations between colonialism and modernity. He is interested by the formats of “mise en récit” (or “staging”) of fact, in other words the “present-ification”of probable pasts and possible futures. Turning research into installation he develops a poetic of re-visitation by editing: the transformation of document into experience and of experience into document. He is a member of the temporary alliance, Potential Estate. For the association Normal as well for other cultural institutions, he has regularly organised film programs and exhibitions, such as the recent Hantologie des Colonies at 12 cultural institutions in Paris and Ile de France 2011.
