The Neighbours

On February 16th, the main building of Netwerk Aalst hosted a meeting of The Neighbours. A surprising name, isn’t it? Not quite. This name belongs to a judiciously organised event for friends intended to gather and to expand the social circle of cultural professionals not only from Aalst, but also from the nearby cities and countries. The following participants attended the event: Adriana Barçenas (BE / NI), Bebe Books (BE), Björn Van Heddegem (BE), Griserda Soriano (BE / DO), Guy Woueté (CM), Kunstenplatform PLAN B (BE), Kristina Melikyan (AM), Maureen Duru (The Foodbrige, BE / GH), Melissa Mabesoone (BE), Musto Al Amo (BE), Olivier Marboeuf (FR), Saddie Choua (BE / MA), Roger D’Hondt (BE), and others.

Netwerk Aalst is an arts centre that hosts exhibitions by talented artists, and participates in cultural and socially-themed events. Netwerk Aalst also features a cinema showcasing alternative films. The centre opened in 1981, and ever since it has flirted with the idea of adding an international dimension to its activities. Slowly, but surely the centre moved in the right direction and achieved much of its original goal culminating with this grandiose project titled The Neighbours which was made possible through the enthusiastic support of the Netwerk Aalst team.

The Neighbours are artists, writers, curators, like-minded people. In other words, they are creative people who gathered on a single platform. The day began with a lunch. The guests got acquainted with each other. This was followed by a fascinating brainstorming session. Maureen Duru, an extremely flamboyant and charming lady, had playfully brought all participants together in a circle. She hosted an intellectual and fascinating game where attendees were expressing and sharing their opinions on specific topics. All participants were playing with great interest and listened curiously to the reflections of their colleagues. Afterwards the participants went for a city walk and visited the city library, Utopia. The evening ended with a karaoke session and a delicious dinner.

Netwerk Aalst has developed the program, and kindly provided the opportunity to showcase oneself and share ideas.

The purpose of this 3-year long project was to consider the needs of Aalst and its residents, and to provide space for easy communication with each other. In particular, it is a focus on artists and their needs, and Netwerk Aalst’s role is to assist individuals and city organisations to develop and implement their projects and dreams, and so to enable them to lead creative lives.

The project was born today, planting the seeds of its future expansion and successful growth. Think together, develop together, create together with The Neighbours and Netwerk Aalst.

The Neighbours

16 февраля в основном здании Netwerk Aalst состоялась встреча “Соседей”. Удивительное название, да? Но, нет! Так назвали продуманное мероприятие для друзей, главной целью которого было собрать воедино и расширить круг общения деятелей культуры не только из Алста, но и из близлежащих городов и стран, и им это удалось. На мероприятие съехались участники: Адриана Барсенас (Бельгия/Никарагуа), Bebe Books (Бельгия), Бьёрн Ван Хеддегем (Бельгия), Грисерда Сориано (Бельгия/Доминикана), Ги Воуэте (Камерун), творческая платформа Plan B (Бельгия), Кристина Меликян (Армения), Маурин Дуру (The Foodbrige, Бельгия/Гана), Мелисса Мабесуне (Бельгия), Мусто Аль Амо (Бельгия), Оливье Марбоуф (Франция), Сэдди Чоуа (Бельгия/Марокко), Рожье Д Хондт (Бельгия) и многие другие.

Netwerk Aalst – центр искусства, где организовывают выставки талантливых художников, Netwerk Aalst участвует в мероприятиях, имеющих культурно-социальный характер, Netwerk Aalst – дом кино, где показывают альтернативные фильмы. Открылись в 1981 году и с тех пор лелеяли идею реализации международного опыта. Они тихо, но верно шли по правильному пути и сегодня достигли многого. Сегодня у них грандиозный проект “The Neighbours”, к реализации которого с душой отнеслась вся дружная команда нэтвoрка. 

“The Neighbours” – это художники, писатели, кураторы, единомышленники, одним словом, творческие люди, встретившиеся на одной платформе. День начался с ланча. Гости знакомились друг с другом. Далее последовали интереснейшие часы мозгового шторма. Маурин Дуру. Нереально привлекательная и обаятельная дама. Игриво собрала всех участников в круг и предложила интеллектуально-увлекательную игру, где каждый присутствующий выражал и делился своим собственным мнением на конкретный вопрос. Абсолютно все заинтересованно играли и любопытно выслушивали размышления коллег. После вышли прогуляться по городу, посетили городскую библиотеку Utopia, а вечером “соседей” ждали сессия караоке и вкусный ужин.

Netwerk Aalst разработали программy, любезно предоставили возможность проявить себя, поделиться идеями.

На самом деле, цель данного проектa, длительностью в 3 года – учесть нужды Алста и его жителей, дать пространство для легкой коммуникации друг с другом. В частности это концентрация на деятелей искусства и их потребности, а роль Netwerk Aalst в содействии индивидуальным личностям и организациям города, которым будет помогать развиваться и воплотить в жизнь проекты и мечты, тем самым обеспечив им креативную жизнь.

Проект только сегодня родился и в дальнейших планах – его расширение и успешный рост. Думайте вместе, развивайтесь вместе, делайте вместе с “The Neighbours”, вместе с Netwerk Aalst.
